Clutter Talk

In the Beginning

In the Beginning

In the beginning, before we were born, there was a baby shower. Yes, folks, we started accumulating our belongings before we were even born! Before we were walking, talking, and generally aware that we had already started our collection of stuff, we had someone taking care of that stuff for us. Our parents, siblings, grandparents, babysitters, nannies, or anyone charmed by our cooing smile would gladly pick that binky up off the floor.

As we grew, we started to learn how to think and feel about our belongings. To discover what our likes and dislikes were, how to share and to give, and to place a certain value on our things. However, we may not have learned how to care for our belongings, what priority they should take in our lives, or even to know when we have too much.

When Possessions Become Clutter

It is often not clear to us how just how even just a little clutter and disorganization impedes our personal and professional success, whether it is with actual physical clutter, an over committed schedule, or old habits and beliefs that no longer work or apply to our current situation. We may be ready for a change, but not know exactly to what. When we are not clear about what is holding us back, we cannot make forward progress, reach our goals, or have the life that we dream of in our heads at night. We may feel stuck, paralyzed, on the hamster wheel, you get the idea. The good news is that it is not too late to regain your clarity. It is a process. And there will be challenges, but the rewards are so worth it!

As Professional Organizer and NY Times bestselling author, Julie Morgenstern, writes in her book When Organizing Isn’t Enough, “By releasing the defunct, extraneous, and burdensome objects and obligations that are weighing you down, you create the space to discover what’s next and move forward.” Are you ready to lighten your load and move forward? If so, we are ready to help!
